A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated last year. We couldn't do it without you!
WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO:
The Powell River & District Christmas Cheer Committee was founded in 1948, after a shutdown at the mill left many families destitute. Some local women collected food and gifts and gathered in the basement of a home in townsite and started the hampers for friends in need. The tradition continues to this day.
We were officially registered as a charity in 1984, allowing us to issue tax deductible receipts.
The Christmas Cheer Hamper Program has helped between 150 and 300 families per year, including 300 children. Our Christmas Cheer Hamper Program relies ONLY on donations from within the community. We welcome cash and toy donations. Cash donations allow us to purchase grocery cards to help fill the Christmas hampers.
We have 2 programs to donate to: our general hamper program and our
Adopt-A-Family/Senior program. With the Adopt-A-Family/ Senior program the applicants are matched with a business, family or an individual who take over the purchase of the Christmas hamper.
